John Lennon, George Harrison and Paul McCartney each purchased a sunburst Casino like our exact replica of John's, the John Lennon '1965' Casino, with all the appointments and hardware it originally came with, playing them on tour and on famous recordings. Later John stripped the finish on his, changed the tuners and made even more music history with the same guitar that we have replicated again in the John Lennon 'Revolution' Casino. It's just like John's in every way, even down to the marks from the original tuners! A portion of the proceeds from the sale of each will be donated to The BMI Foundation, Inc. for the John Lennon Scholarship Fund which supports music education.
John Lennon's Epiphone Casino made a bigger impact on the imaginations of Beatle fans than any of the several other guitars he played during his career, and became an iconic instrument in the process. The fact is, though, that this guitar is revered in two entirely different incarnations: many love it in its original state as a vintage sunburst 1965 Epiphone Casino, while others admire its "Revolution-era" appearance from around 1968, after Lennon stripped it and altered some of its hardware. Now both versions of this historic electric guitar are available simultaneously in the form of the Epiphone "Inspired by" John Lennon Casinos, which offer the look, tone, and feel of Epiphone's acclaimed U.S.A. John Lennon Signature Casinos, but at a more affordable price.
In any guise, the Casino is a classic tone machine. Outwardly, this model may appear similar to Gibson's legendary ES-335 but several details make it quite different. In addition to the obvious P-90 pickups—which produce a meaty, grainy, punchy tone that many players prefer—the Casino has a fully hollow thinline body with an arched top, and a neck joint that is set further into the body, placing the bridge at the optimum point to maximize resonance. As a result of all this, the Casino has a warm, rich, open voice, but with plenty of bite and definition, making it a great all-around instrument for rock and roll, blues, roots-rock, jazz, or just about anything else.
During the recording of Revolver in 1966, John Lennon and George Harrison both acquired 1965 Epiphone Casinos. Representing the original state of this instrument, Epiphone's "Inspired by" 1965 John Lennon Casino retains its original vintage sunburst finish and all original hardware and appointments. Period-correct appointments on this model include the correct "burst" pattern on front and back, an accurate neck joint at the 16th fret (rather than the 17th fret), vintage Kluson-style tuners with small metal keys, a black plastic washer around the toggle switch, and the historically accurate rectangular blue label inside the upper f-hole.
Amid a growing trend for stripped "natural" guitars, John Lennon sanded down his Casino's original finish in 1968 and covered it with a thin, satin finish to create a natural (aka blond) look on the guitar. Around the same time, he also removed the pickguard and replaced the original Kluson tuners with gold Grovers, a popular upgrade of the era. Lennon first used his stripped "natural" Casino during recording sessions for The White Album in 1968, and this is how the guitar exists today. This instrument is represented by Epiphone's "Inspired by" Revolution Casino, supplied complete with gold Grover replacement tuners and removed pickguard and bracket (which are included in the case).
The "Inspired by" John Lennon Casino has a fully hollow thinline body with an arched top crafted from laminated maple, in the image of the original Epiphone Casino of the 1960s. It comes in your choice of two accurate Lennon-era colors: vintage sunburst on the 1965 model, and stripped "natural" with a thin coat of transparent finish on the Revolution model. The top and back are trimmed in a single-ply cream binding.

Just like the original Casinos of the 1960s, the "Inspired by" John Lennon Casino is made with a mahogany neck that is carved to a fast SlimTaper™ profile. It is glued in at the 16th fret for superior resonance and sustain, and its gently back-angled headstock is carved to Epiphone's traditional shape.
The "Inspired by" John Lennon Casino carries a pair of Gibson U.S.A. P-90 pickups, beloved for years by rock and roll players particular for their meaty, slightly gritty tone and aggressive, mid-forward performance. These are routed through Epiphone's traditional four-knob control section, with individual Volume and Tone potentiometers for each pickup, and a three-way toggle-style pickup selector switch.
