The Starling is a Dreadnought shape popularised as the“workhorse” of many acoustic players. Both the acoustic and the electro acoustic are cutaway designs to allow easy access to the upper frets. The acoustic only version has a built in chromatic tuner whilst the electro acoustic features the Fishman Ion pickup system which also incorporates a chromatic tuner.

Fairclough guitars were conceived when two music industry stalwarts began to look at the area of low cost beginners or intermediate guitars.

Steve Fairclough is a veteran of the UK Finger-style Guitar Scene. Throughout the 1990's he was the Demonstrator for Takamine and Parker Guitars working across Europe and the USA on a steady schedule of tours, clinics and concert shows that brought him many accolades as a 'Guitarists Guitarist'.

Throughout that time, he had many requests from parents or first time buyers about which guitar he would recommend for a beginner or intermediate player.

In Steve's words "I couldn't tell them. I didn't have a good answer. It seemed that all the 'cheap' guitars were made to a price point with no consideration for the slightest bit of quality, and the only acceptable guitars I could recommend were from the 'bigger' names of the guitar world and were cost prohibitive to a beginner."

Steve got together with his business partner, Tony Owens, himself a veteran of the music industry and with a solid background and knowledge of producing great guitars to fit all budgets.

Between the two of them they identified some fairly basic points which they both knew must be satisfied if they had any chance of creating their own brand of high value guitars. There are now two series available, The Songbirds for beginners and the Elements for Improving and semi pro players.

Steve Fairclough has been a professional guitar player for over 27 years during which time he has gathered vast experience of teaching guitar at all levels from beginners to master class. In the early 90s he founded the guitar academy in the north of England and through his work as international demonstrator for both Takamine and Parker guitars he went on to be a patron and course leader at The world renowned Bath International Guitar Festival.

Steve has been a contributor to many guitar magazines and was Responsible for writing the examination pieces for the "Young Acoustic Guitarist of the Year" competition.

For years Steve had never been entirely comfortable in recommending to a beginners or intermediate guitarist which guitar to purchase as most available makes and models that were reasonably priced were built solely on price using the cheapest components to offer the cheaper on the store wall.

Fairclough Guitars however have been built with specification first and foremost in order to provide the player a sturdy, attractive, playable and good sounding instrument that will give good service throughout.

Steve is rightly proud of the guitars that bear his name which can now be found not only in the UK but throughout Germany, The Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg, further testament to their quality as these Guitars which only came into being in 2007.
